KUCHING: A teenager from Johor Bahru was fined RM1,500 by Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for illegally owning RM4,290 in his personal bank account after pledging his account number as a security for a part time job to an unknown man.

The accused, aged 19, pleaded guilty on all three charges under Section 37 (1) Ordinance Sarawak Minor Offence 1958 that was read before magistrate Zaiton Anuar.

If convicted, he could be sentenced to three months in prison or RM500 fine.

For the first charge, he was charged for illegally having RM120 in his bank account after a man who is the victim transferred the money at a bank at Taman Green Acres, Mile 17, here on Nov 6, 2022 at 6.27 p.m.

For the second and third charges, he was found having RM4,170 illegally in his account after receiving two bank transactions from the same person at different time on Nov 7, 2022.

Therefore, Zaiton sentenced him to a fine of RM500 in default five days in prison on every charge faced..

Based on the facts of the case, on Nov 6, 2022, the victim saw an advertisement on social media concerning a mattress sale at various prices, thus interested in buying it and contacted a woman name Jessica at 014-2216978.

The victim was asked to made a payment on one account number belonging to the accused, then made three transactions with a total amount of RM4,290.

However, the victim failed to receive the mattress and immediately made a police report for further action.

Findings on the investigation found that the accused has been identified to have owned the money illegally in his account.

The accused also pleaded guilty to have pledged his account number as a security to a man named Alvin on Facebook for part-time job alongside getting commission from the job as well.

The case was handled by prosecution officer Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang while the accused was not represented by counsel.
