LIMBANG: A 28-year-old woman lost a total of RM4,500 after being lured through Facebook that she had received a gift from abroad.
Limbang District Police chief, Supt Mohd Bukhori Saffai confirmed receiving a report of the incident and said the incident occurred at 5.58pm on Monday.
“We were informed by the victim that the gift was sent to her by a friend, whom she met via Facebook and claimed to be from California,” he said.
He said the victim received a call from a woman, claiming to be a Customs officer, and told her that her parcel had been detained at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
Mohd Bukhori said the victim was told to deposit RM4,500 into a bank account given to her if she wanted the parcel to be released to her.
He said when the suspect contacted her again and told her to deposit RM18,000 into the bank account, the victim immediately lodged a police report.
