KOTA SAMARAHAN: Entrepreneurship is the primary driver of a country’s economic growth, said Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

The Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Minister said various entrepreneurship programmes are in place to support Sarawak’s aspirations and goal of becoming a developed state by 2030.

“The ministry, through the Entrepreneur Development Division, continues to implement various programmes and initiatives to produce high-potential entrepreneurs and contribute to local economic development.

“It is in line with the digital aspirations by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg where today’s entrepreneurs need to be equipped with 21st century skills,” he was quoted as saying by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS).

He was speaking at the Youth Entrepreneur Setup (YES) 2023 programme at the Tun Abdul Razak Campus Teacher Education Institute here yesterday (Feb 25).

He assured that his ministry will also continue to introduce more programmes to Sarawak’s young entrepreneurs.

Abdul Karim also highlighted the ministry’s vision which is ‘World Class Youth, Sports for all and Excellent Youth Entrepreneurs by 2030’.

He stressed that it is his ministry’s responsibility to ensure that the youth can succeed and shoulder responsibilities in the field of entrepreneurship.

For the record, the YES programme has benefited more than 2,000 youth and local entrepreneurs in six divisions, namely Miri, Sibu, Bintulu, Limbang, Sri Aman and Lundu.

Also present was Entrepreneur Development Deputy Minister Dr Ripin Lamat.
