KUCHING: The recitation of Rukun Negara in official events will instil patriotism and sow unity among Malaysians, said National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang.

“The concept of Rukun Negara not only needs to be read and heard in the pledge but also needs to be implemented by the ruling government by emphasising the elements contained in it.

“Thus for the Ministry of National Unity, we will continue to be serious in making the Rukun Negara the foundation and guide for Malaysians,” he said at the Sarawak State Level Harmony Programme 2023 at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) complex here, today.

Aaron explained that the recitation of Rukun Negara needs to be stressed among the young who are still in school.

“We do see Rukun Negara clubs in school until the university level.

“In universities, we have Rukun Negara secretariats which are involved in debates and democracy which are important because they highlight unity and harmony in the country,” he added.

On the event, the Kanowit MP said it was held in conjunction with the World Interfaith Harmony Week which brought together various religious believers.

He said this will increase understanding, harmony, tolerance, and cooperation between all people in the country.

“The main objective of the programme is to improve and strengthen understanding and harmony among religious adherents.

“In addition, the programme also aims to spread the message of tolerance and unity to maintain the security and welfare of the Malaysian people,” he said.

The programme is jointly organised by the Ministry of National Unity (KPN) through the Sarawak Department of National Unity and National Integration and the Sarawak government through the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) under the Premier’s Department.

Also present was National Unity Ministry secretary-general Datuk Noridah Abdul Rahim.
