KUCHING: The Gerak Rahmah 2023 programme: ‘Jom Sihat’ was held to empower, improve and intensify the activities of Neighbourhood Watch Committee (KRT) towards developing the Rahmah Community.
On Saturday (Feb 25), the Gerak Rahmah Programme — one of the National Unity and Integration Department (JPNIN) new initiatives — was put into effect simultaneously across the nation.
Kota Samarahan, the state host, hosted the event at the Kota Samarahan Indoor Stadium, which was officiated at by Deputy Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Development Mohamad Razi Sitam.
The programme was also implemented by KRT Tambirat Lot, KRT Pasar Asajaya, KRT Asajaya Ulu and KRT Kampung Jaie, said a report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS).
The Jom Sihat programme was also one of the ‘Agenda Kerja KRT Sihat’ which is outlined in the Rukun Tetangga Leadership Empowerment Plan 2021-2030.
The plan was launched by former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in 2021 to strengthen the role of KRT at the grassroots level through the cooperation of ministries and relevant agencies.
This year, JPNIN took the initiative to implement this programme concurrently involving KRTs across the country, involving collaboration with the Health Ministry, where JPNIN and KRTs are heavily involved in health-related programmes.
Following the launch of the ‘Jom Sihat’ programme, several programmes are expected to follow, including the ‘Jom Ronda Perdana’ Neighbourhood Voluntary Patrol Scheme (SRS) programme in March, Lambuk Porridge Cooking in April, Unity Week Celebration in May, and Unity Plugging (picking up litter while jogging or walking) in June.
Also present was the State Department of National Unity and Integration (JPNIN) director Dirwana Azool.
