KUCHING: A self-employed man, who pulled a prank by impersonating a police officer while delivering a cake at Tapah police station in Padawan, was fined RM1,500 in default one month in jail by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday

The accused Wagner Sabut, 36, from Kampung Simuti in Padawan, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Zaiton Anuar to a charge framed under Section 170 of the Penal Code.

Based on the charge, the accused was alleged to have disguised himself as a civil servant by pretending to be a police officer at the Tapah police station, Padawan around 3.20 pm on Feb 19.

According to the facts of the case, during the incident, the accused introduced himself as a senior police officer from Bukit Aman to the complaint counter supervisor (complainant) for the purpose of reporting himself.

The accused then informed that he had come to arrest the complainant.

After that, the accused said he was going to retrieve a file but he re-entered the station with a cake in hand and told the complainant that his action was just a prank.

The cake was an order from a customer to be given to the complainant.

However, the complainant arrested the accused for the offence of impersonating a civil servant and indecent behaviour in the police station.

Examinations found that he was not a policeman and just a civilian.

Insp Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang prosecuted the case while the accused was unrepresented by a counsel.
