KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 36,191 evacuees are still placed at temporary relief centres in five states, so far, due to floods over the past few days.
In Sarawak, the total number of victims in the Engkelili and Julau areas dropped to 38 from 17 families this evening compared to 43 from 18 families this morning.
According to the SDMC Secretariat, two centres are still operating thus far, with 24 victims from 12 families being housed at the Johnical Rayong Hall in Engkelili and 14 evacuees from five families being placed at the Julau Sports Complex.
In Johor, there has been no improvement although the number of victims dropped to 32,870 as of 4 pm compared to 33,149 at 8 am today.
The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said two more centres were opened to take the total number to 219 in all 10 districts, with Segamat still the worst hit with 12,258 people from 3,511 families evacuated to 78 centres.
“This is followed by Kluang, with 5251 victims from 1,528 families in 39 centres; Batu Pahat (4,491 victims from 1,215 families in 25 centres); Kota Tinggi (3,431 from 923 families in 20 centres); Muar (2,853 from 832 families in 18 centres); and Tangkak (2,186 from 598 families in 20 centres),” it said.
Also affected were Johor Bahru (1,218 victims from 357 families in six centres); Mersing (768 from 228 families in eight centres); Pontian (361 from 90 families in four centres); and Kulai (53 from six families in one centre).
In Pahang, the Social Welfare Department Info Bencana portal reported that the number of flood victims continued to rise this evening after 2,183 victims were placed at 23 centres compared to 2,031 victims housed in 30 centres this morning, with Rompin still the worst hit with 1,821 evacuees, followed by Maran (137 victims), Pekan (106), Temerloh (90) and Bera (29).
The State Flood Management Committee Secretariat said two centres in Raub (68 victims) and Jerantut (96 victims) were closed this morning.
In Melaka, the number of flood victims rose to 162 from 40 families at 2 pm compared to 144 from 35 families at 8 am.
The Melaka SDMC Secretariat said the number of evacuees in Alor Gajah remained at 12 people from six families, who are all still housed at Balai Raya Bukit Tambun.
“In Jasin, the number of victims rose to 150 from 34 families compared to 132 from 29 families this morning. All the evacuees in Jasin are housed at three centres, namely Sekolah Kebangsaan Chohong, SK Seri Mendapat and SK Parit Penghulu,” it said in a statement.
In Jasin, nine areas were inundated, namely Kampung Sungai Dua Asahan, Kampung Pondok Batang, Kampung Bukit Asahan, Kampung Chohong, Sempang Bekoh, Kampung Tersusun Seri Mendapat, Kampung Janda Berhias, Kampung Parit Penghulu and Kampung Tasik.
In Negeri Sembilan, the Social Welfare Department Info Bencana portal reported a slight dip in the number of victims, with 938 from 272 families still housed in nine centres as of 1.30 pm compared to 1,061 from 301 families this morning.
