BETONG: The first series of the DTTS DTTAS Education Fair 2023 for SPM and STPM school leavers will be held on March 18 at the Panglima Rentap Community Hall, Betong, from 9 am to 6 pm.
According to the fair’s publicity officer, Natlie Austin in a press statement here yesterday, the school leavers comprising 72.1 per cent or 390,000 SPM school leavers did not pursue their tertiary education after completing their Form Five secondary education.
“This was a heated debating topic in 2022. And besides that, another issue was that in those in the uneducated group comprised those from poor families like the Orang Asli and the natives of Sabah and Sarawak,” added the fair’s secretary Nelly Tawai.
Hence, Nelly said if the workforce comprised low skills workers, this will caused a low competitiveness in productivity and innovation.
“This will cause employment difficulties and will also affected the low income group.
“This is because if there are no high skill workers or specialty knowledge, sooner or later, this matter can affect the labour market causing more new unemployment,” she said.
Nelly said lack of skills and professional experience will require employers or companies to hire foreigners.
The fair was organised to assist the school leavers on the job market with some valuable knowledge, she added.
