KUCHING: One of Semenggoh Wildlife Centre’s residents, a female orangutan called Saddamiah was recently spotted with her latest bundle of joy in tow.
Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) stated that Saddamiah was previously seen at the feeding platform on Monday (March 6) and on the next day she was spotted carrying her furry baby orangutan.
“We are pleased to announce that the furry baby orangutan is Saddamiah’s third offspring aside from her 10-year-old Ruby and five-year-old Sigat.
“This birth is another milestone and testament of the success of conservation efforts by SFC and the state government,” it said on today (March 9).
The custodian of national parks and wildlife in Sarawak said apart from Saddamiah, the Semenggoh Wildlife Centre is also home to other 27 semi-wild orangutans.
Members of the public are encouraged to participate in SFC’s Orangutan Adoption Programme and do their part in biodiversity conservation.
