Tiang calls on medical assistants to keep abreast

SIBU: Medical assistants have been urged to further empower the profession in line with developments in the medical world.

Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Michael Tiang said the world of medicine and health is becoming more rapid and sophisticated in various aspects such as the use of new technology, modern medicines, more advanced treatment approaches, and more.

“Likewise, with the evolution of disease, there are new diseases and germs discovered over time such as Covid and its variants,” he said at the Medical Assistance Gala Night 2023 in conjunction with the National Medical Assistance Day here yesterday.

“People’s minds are also getting smarter and they are getting better at judging. Their will and expectations are very high, they want treatment with the best methods and remedies.

“In this context, knowledge and skills need to be improved, actions need to be more dynamic, approaches need to be more effective to improve service quality,” he said.

On the celebration, Tiang said that Medical Assistant Day which is held on March 10 every year is very meaningful, especially to those who work as medical assistants.

He noted that it is a day that recognises the profession and its achievements as well as contributions to the country, especially in the field of medicine and health.

“In line with the theme of this year’s celebration, I hope you all continue to express your noble devotion to the community at all times and wherever you work, whether in the rural areas, villages, city or town.”

He also stressed that the work scope for medical assistance is vast and that there is no doubt that they carried a huge responsibility.

“Your services and sacrifices will not be forgotten especially when Covid-19 hit the country,” he said.

Also present were the Sibu Divisional Health Officer Dr Teh Jo Hun, the Director of Sibu Hospital Dr Nanthakumar Thirunavukkarasu, the organising Chairman (Chief Assistant Medical Officer of Sibu Hospital) Mohd Aiman Abdullah, and others.
