KUCHING: The First Integrated Low Carbon Silicon-Based Materials Factory project will be a pioneer in the Southeast Asian region and move Sarawak forward in terms of economic, social and environmental development.
Adam Digital Assets Sdn Bhd chairman Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the factory will use raw materials (silica) to produce its final products (solar panels).
The former Inspector General of Police (IGP) added that his company has established a consortium together with Haitai Solar, CMEC and Solar Pulse Sdn Bhd.
“We have identified the location to build the plant in Samalaju Industrial Park in Bintulu with a direct investment worth USD1.5 billion (approximately RM6.7 billion).
“Our project is intended to kick off by early 2024 and the factory is to be completed by 2025. The factory will fully commence operations in early 2026,” said Khalid.
He said this at the cooperative agreement signing ceremony of the consortium for the project at BCCK here, this morning.
Khalid explained that the project will create about 4,000 job opportunities when the factory is fully operational whereby 3,800 skilled workers and 200 professionals will be employed.
“This achieves 40 per cent of the target in PCDS 2030 to create new employment opportunities in high-tech related industries.
“The consortium is committed to working closely with skilled institutions, colleges and universities in Sarawak and come up with designated modules specifically on solar technology to educate and train more highly skilled personnel in the industry,” he added.
On a related matter, Khalid also said his company also supports the efforts of the Sarawak government under Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg on solar energy as part of the green and renewable energy initiative.
“We also thank the Sarawak government, especially the Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment (MINTRED), for their support towards the project,” he added.
The project was conceived by Adam Digital Assets which is a local Sarawak company that provides innovative green energy solutions to the region.
Also present were MINTRED deputy minister Datuk Dr Malcolm Mussen Lamoh, chairman of Haitai Solar Wang Yong, CMEC representative Richard Zhang Tian Peng and chief executive officer of Solar Pulse Sdn Bhd Mohd Izhar.
