SIBU: A 76-year-old man claimed trial in the Sessions Court yesterday to a charge of raping a teenage girl.
Jok Merang pleaded innocence to the charge when it was read and explained to him which he understood.
The charge against him stated that he did commit rape on the victim, aged 19 then, at the storeroom of a house at Sungai Asap in Belaga district in the year of 2022.
In a separate case heard at the same Court, another person Laing Imo also claimed trial to a charge of raping the same victim.
The charge preferred against him stated that he was found to have committed rape on the victim at the farm near the main road of Uma Kelap Junction, Sungai Asap in Belaga district in the year of 2022.
Both accused are facing the charge framed under Section 376 (1) of the Penal Code which carries a maximum jail of 20 years and liable to whipping upon conviction.
Sessions Court Judge Marutin Pagan released both of them on RM3,000 bail in one surety pending pre-trial case management on May 16.
