KUCHING: A USCI University first class honours graduate’s appeal for a waiver of her National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) loan has come to the attention of Deputy Education Minister Lim Hui Yin.

One of the terms of the PTPTN loan stipulates that the graduate is entitled to a loan waiver if she obtains a first class honours.

Following her excellent results in Bachelor of Arts in Commerce she applied to PTPTN to get the loan waived but her application was rejected.

She then appealed to PTPTN for a review of their decision but it has been months and the corporation is keeping mum about her appeal.

It was then the graduate decided to approach Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen to follow up on her appeal.

Chong recently brought the issue to the attention of Deputy Education Minister Lim Hui Yin who, according to the MP, had promised to resolve it.

Chong said PTPTN rejected the graduate’s application on the grounds that she did not complete her course within the time specified in the loan agreement.

“She then appealed to PTPTN for a review of the rejection.

“Her appeal was submitted in late December 2022 but till this day PTPTN has not come back to her,” Chong said in a statement posted on his Facebook.

The Stampin MP said that on behalf of the graduate he submitted the appeal letter to Lim for her assistance to get the loan waived “which the applicant has rightfully earned through all the hard work she put in for her study”.

“I am grateful Lim has agreed to bring the matter to the Ministry of Higher Education to look for a solution even though PTPTPN is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Higher Education,” he said.
