MUKAH: Sri Ritma Borneo Culture and Arts Organisation and Sarawak State Department of Culture and Arts will be organising the Melanau Ethnic Dance and Music Basic Apprenticeship Programme on this March 17 to 18 until April.

The programme will be held twice a week, starting from 7.30 pm to 10.00 pm at the Sri Ritma Borneo Dance Hall in Tellian Village here.

Chairman of Tahirih’s organising committee, Jasmin Smit said participation is open to secondary and primary schools’ students, students of higher education institutions and Mukah residents.

He said participants can choose to learn dance only, music only or learn both.

“During the period of this apprenticeship, the participants will be taught 14 types of Melanau dances and various types of Melanau music in stages throughout the duration of this programme,” he explained.

Jasmin stated that the participation is free and a certificate of participation will be given to participants who complete the programme.
