KUCHING: The Sarawak Land and Survey Department has won a special international award, three gold medals, and one silver medal at the Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE) 2023.
 
The awards were presented by Datuk Saidatu Akhma Hassan, the Ministry of Local Government Development’s deputy secretary-general (Planning and Sustainable Environment), at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur yesterday (March 17).
 
The three gold medal-winning innovations were Smart Target Accurate Reference Solution (STARS) by VTECHXII from the Serian Land and Survey Department, e128 Loss of Land Title Online System by Sassoku-Tech from the Kuching Land and Survey Department, and MySmartTOL by Lands Tahai Q from the Limbang Land and Survey Department.
 
In addition, an innovation titled “Intelligent Recovery System” (i-Recovery) by RUAI VAIE D9 from the Bintulu Land and Survey Department won the silver medal.
 
The Smart Target Accurate Reference Solution (STARS) project by VTECHXII from Serian Land and Survey Department was also recognised internationally when it was named the recipient of a special award by the International Alliance of Innovation and Invention Associations (IAIA) in 2023.
 
This year marks the fifth year of the Land and Survey Department of Sarawak’s participation in MTE since 2019.
 
Since their first participation through Sarapeg Innovation, the state Land and Survey Department has consistently showcased outstanding and impressive achievements by winning gold medals and receiving special recognition awards from various local and international innovation and creativity institutions.
 
Among the criteria assessed for determining these achievements were the significance of the project, the creativity of the innovation developed, and the impact and results of the project on the organisation and the state.
 
The 22nd MTE was held from March 16 to 18, with the theme “A Leading Global Innovation and Technology Event.”
 
The event was organised in a hybrid format, combining both physical and virtual dynamics.
 
MTE 2023 provided a platform for inventors and innovators from around the world to gather and compete for recognition during the expo.
 
The state Land and Survey Department participated in MTE from 2019 to 2022, and the department achieved several awards during the expo.
 
In 2022, the department won the Public Service Innovation Award as well as a special award from the International Federation of Inventors Association (IFIA) for INNOTECH Q9 in Bintulu Division.
 
The department also won gold awards for SASSOKU-TECH in Kuching Division, LANDS TAHAI Q HYBRID TA’ROM in Limbang Division, INNOTECH Q9 in Bintulu Division, and ACCURATE in Mukah Division.
 
In 2021, the department won a gold award for the Rural Transformation Project (RTP) Smart, LANDS TAHAI Q in Limbang Division, and a special award from the Japan Intellectual Property Association (JIPA) for the same project.
 
The department also won a Silver Award for Innovation Umbrella On-Site (INUOS), INNOTECH Q9 in Bintulu Division.
 
In 2020, the department won a gold award for mobile LASIS (Land and Survey Information System) and a special award from the Malaysian Association of Creativity and Innovation (MACRI) for the same project.
 
The department also won the Outstanding Invention award from the International Federation of Inventors Association (IFIA) for Power4Fields — Portable Power Supply, LANDS TAHAI Q in Limbang Division.
 
Apart from that, the department also bagged gold awards for Power4Fields (a portable power supply), LANDS TAHAI Q in Limbang Division, and Sarawak Virtual 3D City.
 
Additionally, the department won a Special Award from the International Alliance for Innovation and Invention Association for Sarawak Virtual 3D City.
 
In 2019, the department won the Gold Award for The Transformation of Boundary Marks: Sarapeg at the Public Service Innovation Awards, Malaysia Technology Expo 2019, as well as the Outstanding Invention Award from the International Federation of Inventors Association (IFIA).
 
The department also received the International Award of Merit from the Republic of Croatia for the same project.
 
The Land and Survey Department of Sarawak’s achievements at MTE highlight their innovative efforts in the field of land and surveying.
 
Their dedication to advancing technology and improving public service has earned them numerous accolades and recognition at MTE.
