KUCHING: The heavy downpour certainly did not dampen the spirits of the Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) team in celebrating the 216th Police Day today (Mar 20).
The celebration themed ‘Polis dan Masyarakat Berpisah Tiada’ was held at the contingent’s parade ground.
Sarawak Crime Prevention and Community Safety chief SAC Lukas Aket officiated the event and delivered Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani’s speech.
Acryl said the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has entered its 216 anniversary since its establishment in 1807 and the force still remains powerful as the country’s oldest and foremost law enforcement agency.
“Every year, the sacred date of Mar 25 is celebrated to honour the services and sacrifices of PDRM heroes, who have fallen in the line of duty, to defend the peace and sovereignty of every inch of this blessed country against enemy threats.
“Based on the same trust and struggle, the sacrifice of previous heroes will be continued by today’s generation, even though each era promises different challenges,” he said.
Acryl called on PDRM members to renew their pledge of allegiance to the King and the country, uphold the Constitution, and continue to be steadfast in providing their best, for the benefit of religion, the nation and the people.
At the same time, he also expressed his appreciation to the community for the support and cooperation renderd to PDRM over the years.
“The close ties of community members as the force’s most important strategic partners, helped us in our efforts to prevent crime.
“Thus, the concept of community policing will continue to be strengthened to produce a responsible community towards the goal of creating a crime-less environment in this country, in line with the theme of ‘Polis dan Masyarakat Berpisah Tiada’,” he said.
Acryl expressed PDRM’s appreciation to the federal government, the Home Ministry, the friendly forces and all parties, who have supported the force over the years.
“Hopefully, such good ties and cooperation can continue to be strengthened towards to achieve a common goal in order to preserve the well-being of the community and the security of the country,” he said.
Late at the celebration, Lukas presented the Sarawak IPK Integrity Award to six recipients and the Sarawak Police Commissioner’s Certificate of Appreciation to 41 recipients.
