KOTA SAMARAHAN: A total of thirty people turned up at the blood donation drive held at Summer Shopping Mall here yesterday.

The annual programme, held from 9.30 am to 2 pm was organised by the state Malaysian Government Servants’ Welfare and Sports Council (MAKSAK)  Samarahan Division, Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), and The Summer Shopping Mall.

It was held in conjunction with the 60th anniversary of Sarawak’s independence within Malaysia.

MAKSAK Samarahan Division chairwoman Datin Amar Baduyah Bujang was also present to officiate at the blood donation programme, with the theme ‘A Drop of Blood, a Million Hopes of MAKSAK Sarawak’.

At the event, she also handed over the items to the successful blood donors.

Meanwhile, organiser of the programme Welson Malian, when met, said the programme was part of MAKSAK’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) and to replenish SGH’s blood bank that was running dry.

“We are very happy to see a good and encouraging response from the community here.

“Our target from this programme is seventy people for seventy pints of blood to donate with us for today.

“We are hoping that more people will come to drop by our booth today so we can provide aid for patients and hope that such a good programme can be organised again in the future,” he said.

The MAKSAK’s Blood Donation Programme 2023 also gives Sarawak Women Force exco members the opportunity to go to the field and meet with women civil servants in the division, thus helping to spread the goodness and benefits of donating blood, especially among Sarawak civil servants.

In a related matter, the MAKSAK Wanita’s Donation Programme on the brink of Ramadan also took place at Kota Samarahan Health Clinic yesterday.

The programme was held for the first time on the eve of Ramadan as an effort to diversify the annual welfare activities.

Through the programme, MAKSAK Wanita Sarawak also donated RM10,000 to the Kota Samarahan Health Clinic.
