MIRI: Everyone is responsible for the community’s safety and not only the police, said Deputy Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Development I Datuk Rosey Yunus.
She said a more dynamic crime prevention concept requires the active involvement of the community to jointly identify and deal with issues related to crime effectively within their respective areas.
“The responsibility to keep and maintaining safety cannot be left to the police alone, this is because the police are also facing constraints in the implementation of their duties,” she said.
She said this at the Gerak Rahmah Jom Ronda Perpana Voluntary Patrol Scheme (SRS) Programme at the Subis district level in Kampung Muhibbah Ladang 3 Niah organised by the Department of National Unity and National Integration (JPNIN) of Sarawak on Tuesday night.
Rosey, who is Bekenu assemblywoman added that the establishment of the Neighbourhood Watch (KRT) and SRS is one of the government’s initiatives to curb security issues and social problems through the empowerment of community responsibilities.
“KRT and SRS have proven to be able to play an effective role in facing and managing their neighbourhood issues with the support and cooperation of various parties,” she added.
The Ministry has lso introduced a new initiative which is the Gerak Rahmah Jom Ronda SRS Programme which supports the formation of a prosperous and harmonious society, she said.
At the programme , Rosey also announced a Minor Rural Project (MRP) grant of RM15,000 to KRT Kampung Muhibbah Ladang 3 Niah.
Also present were JPNIN Sarawak Director Dirwana Azool, Miri Unity Officer, Wilfred Ugak, National Anti-Drug Agency Enforcement and Security Unit Chief Harni Tani, and KRT Chairman of Kampung Muhibbah Ladang 3 Mohamad Sabhan Borhan.
