KUCHING: The state level Gawai Dayak celebration for 2023 will continue to be held as one of the events in the celebration of 60th Anniversary Sarawak Independence Day.
Minister in the Premier’s Department Datuk John Sikie Tayai said three main events will be held in conjunction with this year’s celebration including the Gawai Bazaar which will be held from June 16 to 25 at the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Community Hall.
Sikie said the launching of the event is expected to be officiated by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
“Next, the Gawai Dayak Parade (Niti Daun) will be held on June 17 and the location for this parade has not been decided yet. This event will involve various ethnic associations from various non-governmental organisations in Sarawak.
“As for the 2023 Gawai Dayak celebration dinner, it will be held on June 24 at the Imperial Hotel here,” he said when chairing the 2023 state level Gawai Dayak celebration Working Committee Meeting here yesterday.
Meanwhile, the guests of honour for the celebration dinner are Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib.
Also expected to attend are Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang.
For the state level Gawai celebration Uggah is Advisor 1; Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom is Advisor 2 while Advisor 3 and Advisor 4 are the Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn and Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring), Datuk Gerawat Gala respectively.
