LUNDU: The Yayasan Kebajikan Negara (YKN), in collaboration with Alliance Bank Malaysia Berhad, brought smiles to underprivileged children with a Hari Raya clothing shopping spree today.

Fifty children from the Tanjong Datu state constituency were chosen to participate in today’s programme, called Sumbangan Asnaf P193 Santubong.

They were earlier selected through the Lundu District Education Office for the YKN’s Kasih Ramadhan programme.

Present to help the children choose their new outfits was Minister of Women, Family, and Community Development Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.

Nancy, who is also the Santubong Member of Parliament (MP), said that the programme, which involves corporations collaborating to carry out corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities, aimed at providing social welfare services to a specific group.

She pointed out that YKN and Alliance Islamic Bank had jointly sponsored a total donation of RM27,000 worth of clothes for Hari Raya.

As such, she called upon other corporate companies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and individuals to donate to their cause to continue providing systematic aid to the needy.

“I urge corporate companies, NGOs, or individuals to donate directly to YKN for systematic distribution to the recipients.

“Every cash donation will be provided with a tax exemption receipt under the Income Tax Act 1967,” she said during the programme held at Parkway Departmental Store here.

She also expressed her gratitude to all parties involved in making the programme a success and extended her appreciation to the donors.

Nancy, who is also the YKN Board of Trustees chairman, hoped that such an initiative would be continued throughout the holy month of Ramadan to further enliven the blessed month.

Meanwhile, on her Facebook page, Nancy said, “The children were free to choose their own Malay traditional outfits, including the samping and songkok, according to their favourite colours.

“Hopefully, this donation can help alleviate the burden of family members, especially as we approach the upcoming Hari Raya celebration.”

During the programme, each child was given RM150 in vouchers for the purchase of new clothes for the upcoming Hari Raya celebration.
