SRI AMAN: Lian Shin Fatt team emerged champions of the Sri Aman Closed Basketball championship for YB Datuk Francis Harden Hollis 2017 triennial challenge trophy at the Lau Ngee Mung Stadium, Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (SJK) Chung Hua Simanggang recently.
Lian Shin Fatt team took home a cash prize of RM1,000, a challenge trophy, a championship trophy and medals after beating seven other teams.
Chee Chuan Khor team in the second place took home a cash prize of RM500, a trophy and medals.
Meanwhile, a cash prize of RM300, a trophy and medals were awarded to Golden Cafe team who won the third place.
Ngu Company team in fourth place took home a trophy.
All prizes were presented by the Assistant Minister of Rural Economic (Interior Areas) and Plantation, Datuk Francis Harden Hollis.
“I hope to see SJK Chung Hua Simanggang and SJK Chung Hua Engkilili will consider working towards holding competitions for Year 5 and 6 students in the future,” he said when officiating the closing ceremony of the tournament.
“And I hope too that there will be competitions for 17 years old students to unearth new talent among our young generation in basketball.
“I believe it will be a huge potential for Sri Aman to produce more basketball players in the future if these efforts can be intensified to the students,” he said.
Harden later announced an allocation of RM20,000 for the Sri Aman Division Basketball Association to support their activities throughout the year.
Also present at the closing ceremony were the Sri Aman Division Basketball Association chairman, Kapitan Kueh Aik Seng and the competition’s chairman, Tan Ting Lung.
