KUCHING: The Golf Persaudaraan Sarawak Semenanjung (GPSS) has presented contributions amounting to RM7,000 to the less fortunate for the third year in a row.
According to the chairman of GPSS Ikhwan Zaidell, the aid is aimed to ease the burden of the recipients during Ramadan and to assist them for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.
“GPSS is a group of 40 individuals who share a common interest in playing golf, and we come from both Sarawak and Semenanjung Malaysia. We collect money for charity when we meet up to play golf,” said Ikhwan.
He added, “We collected donations over the past year and decided to distribute them today. Our committee members will distribute the donations to the needy over the next two days, latest by Monday, to coincide with Ramadan and Hari Raya.”
He said this after distributing the money to the representatives of the targeted groups, who were the GPSS committee members acting on behalf of the less fortunate, at IBZ Corporation.
Ikhwan emphasised that although Sarawak has progressed a lot, there are still some unfortunate people who need help in their everyday lives.
Ikhwan called on more Sarawakians to help the needy during festivities, saying it doesn’t have to be a large amount of money, as even small contributions can mean a lot to those in need.
He also said that since it is the third year in a row that they have been doing this, it has slowly become a habit for them to donate to the needy, which has made them happy with their contributions.
Among the active committee members who were present at the presentation were Mohamad Sardon Zainal, Iskandar Matjani, Iskana Bujang, Omar Suip and Abang Zainal.
