KUCHING: The eighth edition of the Kampung Tematu Gawai Carnival is set to take place on May 26 and 27, where ten finalists from different districts and villages will compete for the grand title of ‘Dayung Gawea Tematu’.
The event will take place at the Kampung Tematu Multipurpose Hall and will feature two additional competitions, namely the Tematu Gawai Onak Dayung Competition 2023 with 11 finalists, and the new Tematu Sindok Gawea Dayung Competition 2023 with eight participants.
Managing chairman John Pata announced that apart from the top three positions, contestants would also have the opportunity to win subsidiary titles such as Miss Best Contemporary Dress, Miss Best Costume, Miss Popularity, Miss Talent, Miss Tourism, and Miss Photogenic.
“The carnival will also feature various activities such as sports games, traditional competitions, handicraft competitions, exhibitions from private and government agencies, food and beverage sales, and many more,” said John Pata during the press conference held at Budaya Restaurant at Kuching Waterfront, here last night (Apr 20).
Food and beverage will also be available for purchase at various booths during the event.
Local Bidayuh artists specially brought by WAIfm Bidayuh and RTM will perform during the event, while Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr. Sim Kui Hian is expected to attend as a special invited guest.
Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang and Miss World Malaysia Dewi Liana Seriestha were also present during the press conference.
“The Gawai Tematu 2023 Carnival & Gawea Tematu 2023 Rowing Competition is a wonderful opportunity for everyone to come together with their family and friends,” said John Pata, inviting people to attend the event.
