KUCHING: Members of the public have only 10 days left to experience Alena Murang’s “Colours of the Highlands” art show, which has been on display at La Promenade Mall since March 18.
The solo exhibition, which features a range of artworks from sketches on paper to large canvases, includes watercolours, acrylic, oil paint, charcoal, and gold leaves.
Over half of the 51 pieces on display have been sold, with a combined value of over RM100,000.
La Promenade Mall’s digital marketing manager, Sophia Ong, said the response to the exhibit exceeded expectations.
“Out of a total of 51 art works, Hoan Gallery has sold 28 or 29 pieces, with a few more bookings on the way.
“Pieces sold range from RM1,000 to RM25,000. The showpiece — The Storyteller — was bought by a Spanish collector. Several pieces have also been sold to Singaporeans and collectors in Kuala Lumpur and Miri,” she said.
Ong also noted that buyers have come from diverse industries, including engineering firms that plan to use the art in their conference rooms.
“That really says a lot about Alena’s wide appeal,” she added.
The success of the exhibit has prompted the mall to extend its run, originally scheduled to end on April 30. The free-entry show will now be opened to the public until May 8.
The Hoan Gallery, which measures almost 4,000 square feet, was converted into Alena’s gallery for the duration of the exhibit. After the show closes, Hoan Gallery will be the exclusive dealer for Alena’s art until this August.
La Promenade Mall encourages people to come and see the exhibit before it closes. If visitors are unable to make it, the gallery can arrange for a private viewing.
Meanwhile, starting on May 13, the Hoan Gallery will host a new solo exhibition called “Dialogues With Our Nature,” featuring highly detailed oil paintings by Bong Choo Chew.
Deputy Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Sebastian Ting is expected to open Bong’s art show.
