SIBU: The Sibu Civil Defence Force (APM) needs special attention to ensure that it can provide the best service to the community.
Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Michael Tiang said Sibu APM needed equipment that commensurate with their task.
“I will continue to provide support and assistance in the form of finance and funds as well as equipment to APM,” he said in his speech when attending a dinner with Sarawak APM director Abdul Wahab Rahim and APM personnel here on Friday (April 28).
The Pelawan assemblyman said the community should emulate APM’s courage and persistence in serving the people, especially during time of emergencies.
“I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude and appreciation for APM’s sacrifices and contributions in restoring and cleaning the areas that suffered damages due to a freak thunderstorm on April 5.
“They act with full commitment as rescuers during the recent storm disaster regardless of the danger they are facing,” he said.
Meanwhile, Abdul Wahab hoped that APM in Sarawak would continue to excel in serving the community.
“I hope that 48 districts throughout the state or other urban areas can establish APM teams (among the community) in the future,” he stressed.
He was confident that APM could be one of the trusted agencies in handling disasters in this country.
Abdul Wahab also said he would be handing over his duties next week and would no longer hold the position of Sarawak APM director.
“I will return to Peninsular Malaysia in another capacity and will no longer be in the APM team,” he said.
Also present was Sibu APM chief Wan Mohd Jabir.
