KUCHING: SJK Chung Hua No. 3 emerged champions in the 6th Power Aquatics Swimming Club (PASC) Inter-Primary School swimming competition at the Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre on Sunday (May 7).
The school collected the highest points of 529, leaving SJK Chung No. 5 in second place with 384, and SJK Chung Hua No. 4 in third with 381.
The winning school for the boy’s category collected 303 points, while SJK Chung Hua No. 4 collected 256 points for the girl’s category.
The competition attracted 228 participants from 27 primary schools across Sarawak.
Representing Sarawak Deputy Minister for Youth, Sport and Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu, was deputy permanent secretary Dolhadi Mazuki, who said that organising swimming competitions such as this would help unearth gems following in the footsteps of such greats as Tania Bugo, Daniel Bego, Kimberly Yap, Dieung Manggang, Imran Nawawi and Wilson Sim.
“Perhaps the participants here one day will be national champions in 10-20 years to come.
“All of this is possible if the participants continue to work and train hard and have high discipline.”
Dolhadi added: “Through the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Entrepreneur Development and the Sarawak Sports Corporation, we are serious and committed to ensuring the best facilities and an effective talent search programme.
“The Sarawak government is also committed to grooming more young talents in other sports with the establishment of facilities such as the Sarawak Sports Village and the construction of mini stadiums across the state.”
