KUCHING: Narcotics police arrested a 30-year-old man foralleged drug possession along Jalan Song here last Saturday (May 6).

Acting Kuching police chief Supt Merbin Lisa said the suspect was picked up from a budget hotel room around 11 pmfollowing a public tip-off.

“The team found and seized two plastic packets containing crystalline substance believed to be syabu.

“The drugs weighing 6.03g, are estimated to be worth RM603,” he said.

The suspect tested positive for methamphetamine and will beremanded at the Tabuan Jaya police station until tomorrow (May 10). 

The case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952

If convicted under Section 39A(1), the suspect may face a jail sentence for a term of up to five years and caned up to nine times.

And if found guilty under Section 15(1)(a), the suspect can be fined up to RM5,000 or sentenced to jail for a term of up to two years.
