SEMARANG: The Unity Government has been urged to focus on replacing dilapidated schools in the state aligned with Sarawak’s support to the demands in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
Beting Maro assemblyman Razaili Gapor said that there are still many schools where children learn in an environment that is not conducive.
He said that it was sad to see rural schools facing shortage of school materials and in need of repairs.
“The Unity Government that is being supported today, we hope that the tenth Prime Minister can keep his promise to Sarawak and Sabah as stated in MA63.
“One of the things that is expected is more allocations to replace these dilapidated schools,” he said at the Semarang Primary School (SK) Aidilfitri event here on Wednesday (10 May).
He was accompanied by his wife, Aisyah Rohani Nahar.
Among those present at the ceremony were Batang Lupar MP Mohamad Shafizan Kepli; Betong District Council (MDB) councillor Syirat Uneh; community leader of Semarang, Spinang and Batang Maro Musa Zin; Kampung Semarang headman Suria Azmie and headmaster of SK Semarang Awang Marali Awang Razal.
He explained that the improvement of school facilities was now largely covered by the allocation of the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) by the Sarawak government.
“In that regard, I approve the construction of a hall in this school using RTP 2024 funds,” he said.
In order to help the Parents and Teachers Association (PTA), Razaili announced a donation of RM10,000 to each PTA in the Beting Maro state constituency.
He said for Kampung Semarang, the first phase of the coastal erosion barrier project is currently underway.
“When completed, we plan to implement the second phase which is expected to cost approximately RM17 million.
“This year it is also hoped that the roof of the futsal court can be built because the project was approved last year,” he said.
Commenting on the issue of the RTP project in his area, he admitted that several challenges had arisen in implementing the project.
However, Razaili said, he would ensure that the project is being implemented to ensure that the people benefit.
