KUCHING: Chairman of The International ICT Infrastructure and Digital Economy Conference Sarawak (IDECS) 2017, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani who is also State Secretary of Sarawak said the top priority of the state government is to have superfast broadband infrastructure to cater to the needs of the more and more businesses thriving in the digital economy.

“The role of the government is to facilitate the provision of the right infrastructure to ensure that the entire state was able to enjoy fast and uninterrupted connectivity,” he said in his message in the souvenir programme of the conference.

Sarawak needed to look into this to ensure businesses grow domestically and globally tapping into greater economic prosperity adding that the state strived to develop a roadmap to put Sarawak on course to steer further in its digital economy aspiration, he said.

With the theme Transforming Sarawak through Digital economy, he believed that the conference was a great opportunity for locals to learn from global industry experts.

Among the world renowned speakers coming to the conference is Don Tap Scott of Tap Scott Group Inc. and author of the Digital Economy and Block Chain Revolution and other notable speakers who are experts in their respective fields.

Tan Sri Morshidi said through the conference, the state government will examine the challenges and opportunities arising from the growth and changes of the digital economy.

Besides that, he said, the government would want to work on a framework and policy on digital economy to help connect and support the private sector so that they could continue to flourish in a conducive and secured environment.

He said through the utilisation of the digital technologies, Sarawak had led by example through the e-government initiatives which had made public services more accessible both to the urban and rural communities.
