KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud officiated at the opening of the first meeting of the second term of the 19th State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting Monday, which will convene for eight days until May 24.
He arrived at the new DUN complex at 10.30am, accompanied by his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib.
Also present were DUN Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar and Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Upon arrival, Taib inspected and saluted the Guard of Honour mounted by105 personnel from the General Operations Force (GOF).
The ceremony began with the national and state anthems as well as a prayer recitation before proceeding to the DUN chambers, where Taib delivered his opening address.
Meanwhile, Asfia called on all the DUN members to behave in a decent manner so that the sitting can take place in a harmonious atmosphere.
“This is to maintain the decorum of the august House,” he stressed.
All the dignitaries and members of the DUN also had lunch at the complex after the opening ceremony.
Three government Bills, namely the Supplementary Supply (2022) Bill 2023 and the Supplementary Supply (2023) Bill 2023, Sarawak Craft Council Bill 2023 will be tabled during the sitting this week.
Meanwhile, only one ministerial motion will be moved, to seek approval for the government printer to print 10,000 copies of the State Constitution of Sarawak, with latest amendments.
