THE Saratok junction needs a flyover to alleviate the increasing traffic volume after the completion of the Pan Borneo Highway.
Krian assemblyman Friday Belik said the completion of the Pan Borneo Highway has brought the promise of improved transportation, reducing travel distances and time.
“However, with this development comes the inevitable increase in traffic volume, leading to concerns of potential congestion along the highway.
“The daily traffic congestion experienced at this intersection, particularly during festive seasons like Chinese New Year, Gawai Dayak, Hari Raya, and Christmas, has raised alarm bells among locals and highway users alike.
“The congested traffic not only inconveniences commuters but also poses significant safety risks for all road users,” he said this during his debate on the Head of States appreciation speech today.
He said the Saratok junction stands as the sole major intersection along the Pan Borneo Highway without a flyover, causing dissatisfaction and resulting in complaints from the local community.
In light of these concerns, he appealed to the government to prioritise the construction of a flyover at Simpang Saratok.
Additionally, he said Saratok needs a dual carriageway from Simpang Saratok to the town.
“This upgrade would ensure a balanced and smooth flow of traffic, specifically for vehicles exiting Saratok towards the Pan Borneo Highway.”
On a separate matter, he brought up issues regarding 28 underprivileged schools in his constituency which need attention.
“Of the 28 schools in the area, only four have received approval for renovation, with two projects falling under Project 1b and the other two under the 12th Malaysia Plan, Rural Project 2.
“It is worth noting that all 28 schools are categorised as underprivileged, requiring various repairs and improvements.
“In light of this, relevant agencies and ministries are urged to prioritise and include these schools in the list of institutions requiring renovations in the near future,” he added.
