SEMATAN: A biscuit-making course organised by the Agriculture Department of Lundu District has sparked interest among rural women, motivating them to explore biscuit-making as a viable source of income.
The programme aimed to empower women in rural areas by providing them with skills to generate income through biscuit production, either as a primary or secondary source of livelihood.
Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang said that in addition to biscuit-making, women in rural areas could participate in various other courses such as fertigation, sewing and embroidery, handicraft making, and more, to enhance their income-generating capabilities.
He said this during the inauguration of the biscuit-making course, which was conducted as part of the 2023 Bumiputera Special Programme (Program Khas Bumiputera or PKB) focused on human capital development, on today (May 22).
Billy emphasised that such courses aligned with his vision to transform Opar into a prominent agricultural hub in Sarawak.
In support of this vision, efforts have been made to improve agricultural road projects, facilitating the transportation of farmers’ produce and aiming to establish agriculture as a primary economic sector in Opar.
The biscuit-making course, attended by 30 members of the Women’s Bureau from Kampung Sebako 1 and Kampung Sebako 2, was witnessed by Roziyana Brawi, assistant community development officer of the Kuching Agriculture Department.
