KUCHING: The rising divorce rate in the state is worrying, according to Assistant Minister for Early Childhood Education and Family Development, Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali.
She said various initiatives had been undertaken by the government in collaboration with non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to address the issue.
“The latest approach is the organisation of the course entitled “The Marriage Course: How to Build a Long Lasting Relationship” with the cooperation of the Sarawak Women and Family Department and The Marriage Parenting Course Alpha Malaysia (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd,” she said.
Hasidah was speaking at the closing ceremony of the marriage course at Harbour View Hotel here last Friday night.
She represented the Minister of Welfare, Women and Community Wellbeing, Datuk Fatimah Abdullah at the event.
The seven-course is for married couples.
Hasidah praised the participants, mostly Chinese, for their commitment towards the course.
“In the future, I hope similar courses will be organised for the young newly married,” she added.
Hasidah, who is also the Samariang State Assemblywoman, advised the participants to use the knowledge gained to strengthen their family bonds.
