SARIKEI: Police are looking for a man who allegedly pickpocketed a woman in a supermarket here.

The incident, which was caught on the supermarket’s security camera, happened around 9 am last Monday (May 22).

The 19-second video clip went viral on social media.

The clip showed a man following a woman in the supermarket. Moments later, the woman’s bag was seen open and the suspect left the scene.

Sarikei police chief Supt Awang Arfian Awang Bujang said police received a report from the 38-year-old housewife around 10.40 am.

“The complainant realised that her purse was missing when she was about to pay at the counter.

“Her purse contained some cash and her personal documents,” he said.

Awang Arfian assured that police are actively tracking down the pickpocket.

The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.
