Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has given a preliminary approval for an additional allocation of RM1 billion to upgrade the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex at the borders of Sarawak and Sabah.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the Sarawak government is working closely with the federal government to implement the projects.
“These are among the decision which have been agreed in the inaugural Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) Implementation Action Council Meeting which was held on January 20 this year,” he said in his ministerial winding-up speech at the State Legislative Assembly sitting, here today.
Among the other decisions are the appointment of Sarawak State Financial Secretary as the representative in the Inland Revenue Board (IRB), Public Works Department and Drainage and Irrigation Department are tasked to implement federal projects in Sarawak with a limit of up to RM50 million and review of Financial Provisions of Special Grants under Article 112D of the Federal Constitution to increase the amount of the Special Grants for Sarawak up to RM300 million.
Abang Johari also informed the august House that the federal government is taking serious efforts in resolving the long overdue MA63 issues through the council.
The council, he said is supported by two Technical Committees, namely the Technical Committee chaired by Deputy Prime Minister II Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof and Coordination Committee chaired by the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of Sabah and Sarawak affairs and Special Functions Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong.
