MOSCOW: In a significant development, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko revealed on Thursday that Russia has positioned nuclear weapons within his country.

The Western nations have criticised Russia President Vladimir Putin’s decision to deploy short-range nuclear weapons in Belarus.

Located on the borders of Ukraine, as well as the European Union (EU) and NATO (Poland and Lithuania), Belarus’s proximity to these regions intensifies the concerns surrounding the placement of nuclear arms.

Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, the opposition leader of Belarus, has issued a stern warning, highlighting the potential risks to the lives of Belarusian citizens and the threat posed to the sovereignty of Ukraine and Europe due to the presence of Russian nuclear weapons in Belarus.
