KUCHING: A female crocodile that had escaped from its enclosure in Matang Wildlife Centre in March this year has been successfully captured by the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) at a river yesterday (May 27).
The corporation said on their Facebook page that the 12-foot-long crocodile was found around 12 p.m. near Ensel Garden in Matang.
The reptile, weighing around 300 kilogrammes, was promptly taken to Jong’s Crocodile Farm in Siburan to be rehomed.
It was made clear that the scene of the reptile’s capture is located near the wildlife centre.
In the meantime, SFC is advising the public to contact them at their hotline at 019-8859996 (Kuching) regarding any crocodile sighting.
Last Friday (May 26), a video and a photo of the reptile went viral on Facebook after a group of visitors came across the crocodile while strolling at Sungai Rayu, Matang.
The incident caught SFC’s attention, which led to a search and capture operation.
On March 11 this year, two crocodiles escaped from their enclosure after the fences collapsed due to heavy downpours and flash floods in the area.
The other reptile, measuring about 16 feet, is reportedly still at large.
