SARATOK: Veterans have been urged to play an active role in seeing to the educational development of children in their areas.
Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri who made the call said the Malaysian Armed Forces Veterans Association (PVATM) suggested they work with other non-governmental organisations (NGOs) on this matter.
“I hope that PVATM members can encourage children to focus on their education.
“Our wish is that the children will go on to become the backbone of the country,” he said.
He said this while inaugurating the PVATM Saratok Branch Annual General Meeting concurrently with the Aidilfitri and Pre-Gawai 2023 Friendship Ceremony at the Sri Krian Community Hall, yesterday.
Krian assemblyman Friday Belik and PVATM Saratok Branch members and families were also present.
Mohamad expressed his appreciation to all members of PVATM Saratok Branch for their service and sacrifices for the country.
“I am sure that the spirit of love for the country is still strong in the hearts of all members even though they have left their respective professions for a long time.
“Apply those values to the children and grandchildren so that they have the same passion for the country,” he said.
He contributed RM20,000 to PVATM Saratok Branch, while Friday chipped in RM10,000.
At the same event, Mohamad also presented incentives to outstanding students and to 16 higher education children of members.
“I hope this incentive will be an injection of enthusiasm to study hard,” he added.
