MIRI: Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg wants cities in Sarawak to emulate Miri’s smart concept digital applications.
“Since Miri was elevated to a city 18 years ago, it has rapidly grown and transformed to a modern city. Ever since then, the government has taken several approaches to equip Miri city with smart city application and infrastructure facilities.
“I have collaborated with the Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) and Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SEDC) to equip the city with advanced tools so that the management of the city from the cultural perspective and its relationship with the people can be integrated through specific applications,” he said.
He congratulated Miri and its residents for their positive response towards the transition process.
Abang Johari was speaking at the closing of the Miri City May Fest celebration at the Eastwood Golf and Country Club here yesterday (May 28).
On the city’s safe park concept, he lauded Miri for the initiative.
Under the concept, closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras and panic button smart poles were installed and connected to a command centre which would be alerted to an emergency.
“I was informed your park is equipped with the latest equipment and the signal is sent to your command centre. And immediately you have the solution to solve any problems that arise.
“This is a great success and that is why I ask other cities to emulate Miri city in terms of its smart applications,” he told guests at a dinner to mark the closing of the celebration.
