KUCHING: Police are searching for a suspected arsonist who allegedly torched three cars and damaged a two-storey house in Jalan Sungai Apong Baru.
The incident, which occurred around 3.50am yesterday (May 31), has prompted a comprehensive investigation by the authorities.
Firemen from Tabuan Jaya and Padungan stations were alerted of the blaze and promptly went to the scene to extinguish the fires.
Thankfully, no one was injured, as all seven tenants managed to escape to safety without sustaining any injuries.
Acting Kuching police chief Supt Merbin Lisa said they are conducting a thorough investigation to identify the actual cause of the incident.
“We are suspecting foul play, and the incident is being treated as a case of arson.
“The public is advised not to make any speculations and let us conduct our investigation,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 435 of the Penal Code for mischief by fire.
It carries a maximum sentence of 14 years in jail and a fine upon conviction.
Earlier, CCTV footage showed a man approaching the house and throwing an object believed to be a Molotov cocktail into the house’s compound.
