The Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) has strongly criticized the recent claim submitted by Paul H Cohen, the attorney representing the self-proclaimed heirs of Sultan Jamalul Kiram II (known as the Sulu claimants), who are demanding substantial compensation from the Malaysian government.
According to the AGC, the submitted letter insists on an immediate payment, required before June 2, 2023, amounting to a staggering US$16.412 billion. This sum includes a 10 percent interest component, lawyer and expert fees totaling US$3,502,394.24, and an additional amount of US$4,026,592.64 for the cost of weighing the evidence.
In response to these claims, the AGC, as reported by Bernama, has categorically stated that all the allegations made by Cohen in the letter are entirely false and blatantly disregard the verifiable facts of the claim, which cannot be denied. The AGC believes this attempt to create a written record of falsehoods is intended for use against Malaysia and is unwarranted.
