KUCHING: Parents are being encouraged to view Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s suggestion that students should be involved in cleaning school toilets as a positive step.

President of the Sarawak Teachers’ Union (STU), Kullin Djayang, said the matter is important in instilling discipline and promoting cleanliness among students, both at school and in their homes. He said that a good education always starts with personal hygiene and maintaining a clean environment.

“I believe parents should approach this matter positively and allow their children to take responsibility for cleanliness in the school, including the toilets,” Kullin told New Sarawak Tribune.

In the past, Kullin explained, students were indeed trained to clean the school premises, including the toilets. However, due to objections from parents, the government allocated funds for the contractors to handle the cleaning tasks in schools.
