KUCHING: Instilling and teaching cleanliness habits and good personal hygiene, including maintaining clean toilets, should begin at an early age.
Minister of Women, Early Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said children should be taught age-appropriate tasks to tidy various areas such as the bedroom, living room, and kitchen, and to clean the toilet.
“Thus, I’m a strong believer in starting this practice from young and starting from home,” she told New Sarawak Tribune.
She was prompted for comments on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s directive to the Education Ministry to inspect school toilets and ensure students take responsibility for their cleanliness.
Recalling her school days, Fatimah said had participated in cleaning programmes.
“Cleaning the classroom, toilet, hostel, dining hall, library, and school compound is all part of school life.
“Everybody takes turns to do it. We even have classroom and hostel cleanliness competitions which included cleaning toilets as well,” she said.
