KUCHING: A total of 684 (2.08 per cent) out of 32810 candidates in Sarawak scored straight As in all subjects for their 2022 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) public examination.
State education director Datuk Dr Azhar Ahmad said the results showed an improvement compared to last year’s result.
“This shows an increase of 0.28 per cent of the students scoring straight As in all the subjects. For the 2021 result, only 596 (1.80 per cent) students scored straight As.
“Meanwhile, 5,480 candidates (16.70 per cent) obtained at least an honour or grade C in all subjects in 2022 compared to 4,960 candidates (15.01 per cent) in 2021.
“The 2022 results also show that a total of 12,464 candidates (37.99 per cent) have obtained at least a pass in all subjects taken compared to 12,547 candidates (37.98 per cent) in 2021, an increase of 0.01 per cent compared to 2021,” he added.
Dr Azhar revealed this during the announcement ceremony for the SPM 2022 results at SMK Green Road here yesterday.
He also said that Sarawak State Average Grade (GPN) achievement of SPM candidates for 2022 recorded a value of 5.07 compared to 5.17 in 2021, a difference of 0.10 points.
“A lower GPN value indicates better performance by the candidates,” he said.
Dr Azhar also announced that the performance of the SPM in 2022 compared to the SPM in 2021 had shown an increase and decrease in some subjects.
“A total of 38 out of 78 subjects have recorded an improvement while 34 subjects have recorded a decrease. Meanwhile, six subjects have shown unchanged performance.
“The percentage of candidates eligible to receive the SPM certificate in 2022 has also increased from 88.29 per cent to 91.22 per cent. This showed an increase of 2.93 per cent,” he said.
Dr Azhar said a total of 132 Candidates with Special Educational Needs (SEN) sat for the SPM exam in 2022.
“Based on that number, 56.06 per cent of SEN candidates are eligible to obtain the SPM certificate in 2022,” he added.
