KUCHING: Despite facing challenges in learning at a slower pace, Kevin Tang Siok Kai from SMK Bintulu has achieved an outstanding result of 1A+, 2A, 4A-, 1B+, and 3B in the 2022 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination.
Tang, who is a slow learner student, expressed his gratitude to his friends and teachers for their support in finding alternative ways to help him understand the subjects.
“To overcome my difficulties, I engage in conversations with my friends, and my teachers use different teaching methods with me.
“I am very thankful to my teachers, and one day I hope to have the opportunity to further my studies and become a teacher too,” he said during the 2022 SPM announcement ceremony at SMK Green Road here on Thursday (June 8).
Meanwhile, Tang’s mother, Carina Wong, shared that he faced challenges in speech development, but with proper support, he was classified as a slow learner and could still be taught and learn.
“For his SPM preparation, I never forced him to study but always encouraged him to do his best. He also attended tuition classes for subjects he liked. We always reminded him to stay relaxed as we feared the pressure might affect his performance.”
In another remarkable achievement, Ahmad Farid Ridhwan Ramlan from SMK Matu, Daro, scored 8A+ in the examination. Motivated by his aspiration to become a teacher, Ahmad Farid studied diligently for his exams.
“I want to be a teacher, and after this, I hope to enrol in teacher training colleges (IPG) to pursue my passion. I also want to repay my parents for their support, which is why I have been studying hard all this while,” he added.
Andrian Harry Kenneth, a student from SM Sains Miri, obtained 8A+ and 1A. He emphasised the importance of maintaining the momentum to study from the beginning until the day of the exam.
“Scoring straight As is not easy because if we pause our studies for a moment, we may lose the momentum. I have aimed to score straight As since Form 1.”
Despite having numerous activities, particularly in sports, during his final year in school, Andrian managed to allocate time for revision at night.
“I hope to receive a scholarship as I plan to pursue my studies in medicine,” he said, sharing his aspirations for the future.
