SEMATAN: A fire that broke out at around 1 pm yesterday destroyed a single-storey wooden house in Kampung Tanah Hitam, here.
Lundu police chief DSP Damataries Lautin said there were no reports of injuries.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Fire and Rescue Department.
The sole occupant of the house, a 70-year-old woman, managed to escape to safety. She was outside the house when she noticed a burning odour emanating from the kitchen and upon investigation she discovered thick smoke billowing from the kitchen.
Damataries said the woman’s 16-year-old granddaughter was at school when the fire broke out.
