KUCHING: Sarawak police will deploy 289 personnel for the coming Niti Daun (Gawai Dayak) parade, which will be held from Tun Jugah building to Kuching Waterfront on Saturday (June 17).

Police Commissioner Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said his men will be tasked with maintaining security for the VVIPs and the public.

In addition, the police will also monitor traffic flow and carry out crime prevention duties.

“The teams will be carrying out security intelligence (flushing), river and air control using drones to ensure safety and security throughout the event.

“All department chiefs, formation chiefs as well as the Kuching police chief have already made their preliminary preparations in terms of manpower and assets to be mobilised,” he told a press conference at the Sarawak Contingent police headquarters (IPK) media centre this morning.

Meanwhile, he said flying of public drones at random throughout the event, is not allowed.

Mohd Azman said theTVS drone unit is the only one allowed to provide coverage in the air during the activity for safety reasons.

“All drone operators must obtain approval from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM).

“The police will not hesitate to use drone jammers to block the flight frequencies of dangerous and unlicensed drones,” he said.
