MIRI: The authority of the Private Medical Practice Control Unit (CKAPS) at the federal level needs to be decentralised to the state level to expedite approval process.
Deputy Health Minister Lukanisman Awang Sauni emphasised that such a move was necessary to help address some matters on decision-making besides cutting the red tape process.
He disclosed that he was fully aware of the problem faced by the centre following some of the red tape process.
“We are seeking for the decentralisation to the state’s CKAPS from federal (CKAPS) for some cases or policies to facilitate the process,” he told the local media after conducting a visit to Miri Dialysis Centre in Permyjaya today.
Lukanisman was responding to Minister of Transport Sarawak Datuk Sri Lee Kim Shin, who had appealed that several matters involving the Tudan Malaysia Red Crescent (MRC) Dialysis Centre including the approval for its clinical waste disposal and licensing matters (dialysis machines and staff) be expedited.
Tudan MRC Dialysis Centre can accommodate up to 40 machines, but due to the long waiting period for approval from the Putrajaya (CKAPS of Health Ministry), the centre is currently operating with only 12 machines.
“We are also having insufficiency in staff apart from the machines because we have to wait for the approval of CKAPS at the federal level,” said Lee, who is also chairman of the MRC Dialysis Centre Miri.
Also present were Deputy Miri Mayor Cr Ariffin Mohamad and Miri Hospital director Dr Jack Wong.
