SIBU: The Sarawak Teachers’ Union (STU) is calling on the Ministry of Education (MoE) to address the problem of teacher shortage in the state without delay.
During a press conference after the 2nd Executive Council Meeting today (June 17), STU president Kullin Djayang said that Sarawak urgently needs a minimum of 2,800 teachers to alleviate the shortage issue at both the secondary school and primary school levels.
STU also appealed to the MoE to urgently renovate dilapidated school buildings and teachers’ quarters.
Kulin added that the MoE should prioritise this matter as it concerns the safety and well-being of both teachers and students.
The meeting was attended by executive members from 12 divisions at a hotel here.
