KUCHING: Deputy Premier Datuk Douglas Uggah Embas has urged those involved in infrastructure development, especially contractors, to efficiently identify, analyse, and mitigate risks linked to these projects.

He said this is vital for sustainable development and optimal operational performance in view of the fact that asset management is ever-evolving.

“In today’s rapidly changing landscape, organisations face numerous challenges in maintaining the integrity and safety of their assets.

“It is imperative that we foster a culture of risk awareness, not only to safeguard our infrastructure but also to ensure the well-being of the communities we serve,” he said.

His text of speech was read by Infrastructure and Port Development (MIPD) Deputy Minister Aidel Lariwoo during the Physical And Infrastructure Asset Management Conference 2023 at Pullman Hotel here today.

By embracing innovative risk management strategies and Big Data ideas, Uggah said the tide of potential hazards can be reversed and thus create a safer and more resilient environment.

“With the commitment of the Sarawak government to bring more progress to all and becoming a high-income state by 2030, I am sure we have a lot of pressing agendas in terms of seeing our facilities and assets are of high quality in the state in the next decade,” he said.

On the conference, he said it serves as a platform for collaboration and knowledge sharing among industry experts, researchers, academicians and professionals.

“By fostering an environment of collective learning and expertise exchange, we can collectively drive the field of asset management forward, ensuring the sustained growth and development of our industries,” he said.

Meanwhile, the two-day conference themed ‘Reversing Risk’ was organised by CWorks Technologies Sdn Bhd and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS).

The conference targets asset-intensive industries like utilities, oil and gas, rail and transit, pharmaceuticals, academicians, heavy manufacturing, property owners and facilities including hospitals, campuses and hotels.

It aims to focus on the importance of risk management and safety in physical asset management.
